A Brief History of “The Game”

Michigan and Ohio State first met on October 16, 1897 (a Michigan win) and have met each and every year since 1918. “The Game” has been a regular-season finale since 1935 with few exceptions. It was called the greatest sports rivalry in history by the United States Congress. Even ESPN ranked the Michigan-Ohio State feud as the greatest North American sports rivalry – just ahead of Muhammad Ali vs. Joe Frazier!

Even so, Vegas odds are favoring Ohio State once again this year.  The Buckeyes have won four straight games (and 11 of the past 12)  — including last year’s landslide victory of 42-13.  According to ESPN’s Dave Purdum, they are favored by close to a touchdown.  Either way, it’s always exciting when these two teams meet.
